Multilateral organisations
Multilateral organisations are key partners for Switzerland’s international cooperation. Through its support for multilateral partner organisations, Switzerland contributes at the global level to sustainable development, peace promotion and the fight against poverty, and has a say in strategic decision-making processes.
Multilateral organisations include United Nations (UN) organisations and multilateral development banks that are active in development cooperation, humanitarian aid and peace promotion. Switzerland collaborates with these partner organisations to address global challenges at a global level, to assist communities in crisis situations, and to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
Switzerland supports multilateral organisations by providing expertise and financial support. Its financial support takes the form of core contributions, as well as programme and project contributions. These core contributions enable priority multilateral partner organisations to carry out their mandates. Switzerland is represented in the governing bodies of these organisations and is thus able to contribute to strategic and operational decisions.
